Industries and businesses still debate whether it is worth it to hire consultants– or whether they simply take money and time that far exceeds their benefit. Treating the wine industry as a case study sheds light on the answer to this question. Wineries tend to hire consultants more frequently than many other sectors, and the results appear to be generally good: Wineries that used consultants had, on average, higher quality scores than those that did not. However, they were less likely to achieve extreme levels of quality– good or bad. Thus, businesses should consider, more than anything, their personal strategy and resources before hiring consultants.
