Lost wine grape ‘Tardif’ may protect against climate change

Climate change has been an issue affecting French winemakers but a grape that has been proven to grow in adverse conditions, even surviving the 19th century phylloxera epidemic has reappeared on France’s wine grape register to combat this. The Tardif gravy, believed to originate in Gascony, has peppery as well as spicy tones and can survive in a climate that has long, hot summers. With over 1500 vines planted, wine production could begin as early as 2020.
