Luxury hotel owner buys control of Château Trianon

The owner of the Intercontinental in Bordeaux and the sumptuous Waldorf hotel in Versailles, Paris now owns a majority stake in a venue once home to King Louis the 14th. The plan is to transform the existing Chateau and the surrounding vineyards into a world class wine destination. The property changed hands as recently as 2014, when a Chinese winery owner bought a controlling share. Luxury suites with views of the vines and a new restaurant are in the new renovation plans which include dramatic improvements to the vineyard.

Key Takeaways:

  • Château Trianon announced in late February that Financière Immobilière Bordelaise (FIB) has become the estate’s new majority owner.
  • FIB wants to use its experience to renovate Château Trianon to create a luxury destination for wine tourists
  • Rooms will provide views over the vineyards with interior design by Jacques Garcia, said the estate in its press release.

“A luxury hotels group run by millionaire Michel Ohayon has bought a majority shareholding in Château Trianon in St-Emilion and plans to transform it into a top class tourist destination alongside existing co-owner Dominique Hébrard.”
