Not so hidden gems of Sarlat and a few of Périgueux

A website devoted to travel in the Dordogne region of France has a feature about a visit to two towns. The author took snapshots from the town of Sarlat. She photographed a street lamp and a building from the Middle Ages. On a less historic note, she visited some nice chocolate shops and took photos. She also visited Perigueux. She took a photo of an a street musician, as well as a town street and another chocolate shop. She gave a brief history of the town.

Key Takeaways:

  • The author has visited Sarlat since 2009, but still finds new and interesting architectural features such as the metal work on the street lamps.
  • Périgueux is another French town characterized by rustic architecture and even an organ grinder that reminded the author of a Dickens novel.
  • There was an Easter egg hunt on Sunday April 9th at Daglan.

“The town of Périgueux has been in existence since Neolithic times, and later became an important Roman centre. Like so many villages and towns in France it suffered during the Middle Ages through the Hundred Years War. Therefore a great deal of construction was needed in the 16th and 18th C.”
