So many details go towards creating the ‘French Experience’ remembered from our time in the countryside. The ringing of the church bells. The voices of the locals chatting over a ‘petit cafe’ on the terrace. The clip clop of a horse passing through the village. We all have sounds that we associate with our favorite time in France.
Then there are the images of every day life. The massive wrought iron gates hung on stone pillars. The tree-lined drive with a line of grass running down the middle. The cobbles in the courtyard. The thick wooden entrance doors complete with hand made locks and bolts.
All bearing the marks of time. The stories they could tell. We can only imagine.
You can never travel far without composing a photograph in your head or on your smartphone.
“It is hard not to collect photos of them, to remember and treasure. If I take a walk in France, I’m always sorry not to have a camera at the ready.”
