Benoit Hamon, the Socialist party candidate in the recent French election, has announced that he will be quitting the party and starting his own political movement/party. While he states that he still believes in the ideals of the party, his fifth-place finish with just over six percent likely added to his feeling that the time has come to strike a new chord, much like Macron (the winner) did this year. 11,000 people were in attendance for the event where he made this surprising announcement.
