What tax reforms can we expect under President Macron?

Emmanuel Macron ran his election on that platform that he would cut both business and individual taxes. Now that he is in office, what should be expected? H wants to reduce taxes on money that improves the French economy like property taxes and bring investment taxes to a low close to that of the rest of Europe. He wants to give tax relief to more individuals by raising the income threshold as well. He also plans to reduce corporate tax and cut government spending among other changes.

Key Takeaways:

  • ISF, a tax instituted on the wealthy, in France, was so unpopular that many wealthy people emigrated the country.
  • The ISF tax is based on an individual’s world-wide assets, that are in excess of €1,300,000.
  • Had Macron won the election, reforms to the wealth tax would in all likelihood have started in 2017.

“M. Macron is keen to stop taxing forms of wealth that contribute to the French economy, and has proposed a drastic reform of wealth tax.”
