Before you can do that, you have to be able to position the problem using the words your ideal client themselves would recognize.
The more impossible that problem appears to be, the more urgent the solution becomes, the more your potential client will value the result.
In 2012, I was the event director at one of the last Olympic sailing qualification events before that year's Games.
The build up had been successful.
I had secured prize money ( a rare thing in Olympic sailing ).
The sponsor had agreed to be there for the presentations.
And our media operation was about to swing into high gear.
Only one thing was missing....
The 276 SIM cards required to animate our whole online presence.
I won't bother you with all the details as to how that worked.
Suffice it to say, I had 6 hours to secure them or the whole show would be trashed and the sponsorship would dry up. The racers' expectations would be dashed.
Making me an unpopular figure on all fronts.
I had never failed to deliver on the expectations put upon me and I was determined this was not going to be the first time.
Yet, I faced seemingly impossible odds.
Time was of the essence.
And I was desperate.
