4 Baby Steps to growing a heart centered Coaching Business

The key to growing a heart-centered coaching business is to attract high-level clients who already love what you do, how you do it, and why you do it.

When you started your heart-centered coaching business.
You put the word out among friends and family.

It was a good way to attract your first clients although you realized it was never going to be a long-term solution, which is why you're here now... 

Looking for a long-term solution.

Back then, you would pretty much take any new client you could just to build up experience. Now, you want to set some conditions. Raise the quality of clients you work with and focus on the area of coaching that interests you most.

Every coach now making 5 figures a month has been where you are, now.

They broke through because they created a client-attraction system based on 4 fundamental truths that I’m going to lay out for you.

The ones that didn't never turned PRO.
They appealed to everybody.

And therefore spoke to nobody.

80% of coaches are back behind a desk in 5 years. 

Not because they were not good at what they did.
Not because they did not have enough clients

But because those clients weren’t paying them enough for their expertise.

There's a simple reason for this.

They don't have a client attraction strategy

They struggle to get high-paying paying clients because the people they really wanted to work with have no idea what makes them special. No idea how this is different from every other coach in the same field... And least of all, no idea they could work with them or how much their services cost.

How you write your posts and articles is very important. 

Taking a client-centered approach means you are able to express the challenge that your ideal clients think they face while knowing that the real problem is much more profound.

It's about being able to express the symptoms they have to deal with every day and the scenarios in which they show up.

Only then can you switch their attention to the underlying problem and lay out the milestones they must pass on their journey to overcoming it. 

This empathy-driven approach delivers enormous value upfront with no expectation of recompense. It builds trust. It demonstrates your expertise.

Without a deep understanding of your ideal client, this is impossible.

Homo Sapiens is a selfish animal. We are totally focused on trying to figure out how to solve our own problems.

We don’t care how brilliant other people are until you prove...

They understand us and the challenges we face.
They use the words we use to describe our dreams.

When you express these, your audience stops to listen because they recognize you may be able to help them. 

They feel the passion you have for your area of expertise.
They are grateful you have shone a light where there was none before.

You will only make money when you talk their language

You will only have a business when you care more about your clients' results than your own income.

What drives me up the wall is that somewhere out there, someone is feeding us all lies... About how if you’re passionate about something, you can turn it into a business. 

That if you just BELIEVE  in it enough, you can do anything you want to.

But it takes a lot more than belief.

You have to turn Pro

...Give up being a generalist, like a doctor in the local surgery, and become a specialist, like a heart surgeon, who people know and respect for their brilliant interventions. 

A heart surgeon puts their patients' best interests first. They show up and give them their best advice. And never shrink from giving a full prognosis.

You mustn't either.

I tell you this because I have spoken to many coaches who refuse to 'niche down'. They don't want to focus on one problem and one ideal client. They believe that if they do, they will limit the number of clients they can take on.

...Which couldn't be further from the truth.

Yet taking on board, that your niche should be an inch wide and a mile deep is one of the fundamental truths behind owning a 6 figure coaching business.

Coaching is a billion-dollar industry and growing.
You have a lot of competition.

Here are the 4 baby steps to growing a heart-centered coaching business.

Step #1: Fix one urgent problem…

Become known for being good at achieving one high-value result. 

That does not mean you can't achieve others. It just means you choose to focus your time and effort so you can keep life simple.

People will then recognize you as an expert. 
Someone with deep experience who offers additional value. 
Someone who is worth the high-ticket fee they have to pay you.

Being a generalist, offering many services, means people do not see you as being an authority on any one of them.

High-value clients want to work with experts who are known for doing one thing extremely well.

Step #2: Only accept quality clients... 

Being picky about the clients you accept is important. They have to be ready to follow your guidance and implement your recommendations. They have to attend the calls you schedule together. 

It's not enough for them to be ready to pay you what you ask. They have to follow through and work for the result they seek.

Having successful clients means you have a steady flow of testimonials. A steady flow of people singing your praises but this means you have to... 

Step #3: Focus on delivery not sales

This is the second half of the equation. Having a quality client makes your work a joy. It also gives you the best chance of delivering what you promised without getting caught up in the weeds.

You can't have one without the other.

Quality clients breed results. Focusing on delivery ensures results.

Together they ensure a virtuous circle whereby you build a durable business that survives black swan events like the pandemic.

Step #4: Position yourself to maximum advantage.

You can only coach a limited number of people.

Say the ideal number of clients you can handle is 10 per month. That works out at 120 clients per year which means the size of your market need be no bigger than 120,000...  Of whom 3.7% are your ideal client or 4,400 people.

When you position yourself to maximum advantage, you make sure you are in a market vertical that recognises the value of achieving the result you deliver... And pay more for it than others. 

That doesn't mean they present as being more difficult or that you have to have extra certifications. You just have to be expert at getting the result. 

Positioning yourself effectively ensures you are not working 24/7 to scrape together half the income you truly deserve.


Do not approach these steps in a tearing hurry.
They take time, research, and plenty of thought to nail.

Those 4 baby steps  go  hand-in-hand with creating a compelling offer... As does honing your ability to write belief-shifting posts, and onboarding those high-quality prospects.

You do not have to be an expert marketer to have a successful heart-centered coaching business but you do need to be good at listening to what your audience really really wants and needs... And intuiting that from what they are not saying.

What you hear and understand helps you shape a program to achieve the one big goal they seek.

Being an expert in achieving one result (and loving to share that expertise with your people) is the only qualification you need to make a five-figure monthly income.
